Introduction
Riley Corwin is a supporting protagonist of Samantha’s Quest: Isles of Galerock. He is 25 years old and a member of the Secret Defence Services (SDS), a branch of the army that deals with circumstances that the army wouldn’t normally deal with, but that require military-level intervention.
Riley is a Christian who attends church regularly. When Riley hears from an “acquaintance” that Samantha and Amy had entered the portal to the Isles of Galerock in the Vermillion Plaza, he rushes in to rescue them.
This is when he finds out that Samantha is a fellow blade wielder, and explains to her and Amy what he knows about the portals and the blades so far.
Appearance
Riley has fair skin and straight short dark brown hair that sticks out a little near his forehead. He wears the standard SDS uniform, which consists of a dark green shirt with parts of it in black, a black tie, black pants, dark brown boots, a leather belt, black gloves, and a dark green beret. Riley also has bright green eyes.
Riley’s uniform makes him always look combat-ready, or like he could be a security guard or soldier in the army. It is good for camouflage in dark places, and the boots are suitable for all terrains, no matter how rough.
Overall, Riley’s uniform gives him an air of professionalism, which naturally tells others he knows what he’s doing and is ready for duty.
Personality
Riley is best described as reliable, responsible, professional, and serious, but with a friendly side.
Riley’s reliable and responsible attitude is seen in how quickly he arrived to the scene upon his acquaintance’s phone call. This shows how seriously Riley takes his work, even though he had finished his shift for the day (and, as evident from his answer to Amy in episode 5, does not enjoy working overtime).
Riley’s reliable and responsible attitude is also seen in how after bringing Samantha and Amy out of the portal, he chooses to stay back to guard the portal until the police arrive, so that no one else accidentally wanders in.

When Amy expresses grief over forcing Riley to continue working overtime, Riley even tells her not to worry, and says that it’s thanks to her and Samantha that no one else will wonder in—just to cheer them up. This shows another side to Riley: his selfless attitude and warm heart, hidden behind his usual cool, serious demeanour.
It’s seen further when Riley expresses concern over Samantha being chosen as a fellow blade wielder. He understands that Samantha is just a civilian, and so tells her not to worry about being chosen and to just forget about the portals, saying that he’ll handle it—even though this means he will have to handle the portals’ dangerous guardians by himself (a fact which Samantha herself expresses concern over).
Riley’s professionalism is seen in how after rescuing Amy and Samantha, he immediately offers to explain to them what’s going on, revealing all that they need to know, and allowing for follow-up questions afterwards. Riley also apologises for any questions he is unable to answer, which expresses his deep desire to want to help people to the best of his abilities.
There is also a bit of a humourous side to Riley, even if only slightly. After finishing off the snake monsters in episode 4, Riley then pauses, and casually remarks, “Well, that was anti-climactic” with a grin. It shows that even in the face of danger, Riley can still find the time to laugh and enjoy himself.
Role in the Story
Riley’s role in the story is important, as he is the one who rescued Samantha and Amy from the snake monsters, who’s offered to help them whenever necessary, and who knows the most about the Isles of Galerock, due to his work in the SDS.
Over time, Riley will prove to be an invaluable companion to Samantha and her friends, offering his combat expertise and military skills to support them in their journey. Riley will also prove to be a valuable mentor for Samantha as a fellow blade wielder with more experience.

You should just focus on the next chapter in your life, like your uni studies, or whatever you decide to do. I’ll be able to handle things from here.”
